How to Analyze Data Using Metrics & Dimensions

Step 1: Start from Search

Use the Search Bar to begin your analysis.

Step 2: Select a Metric

Choose the metric you want to analyze, such as Sales.

This defines what performance you want to measure.

Step 3: Add a Dimension

Select a dimension such as Parts Category to break down the metric.

INSIA instantly recommends relevant views to help you:

  • Understand overall performance

  • Compare categories easily

  • Identify trends and outliers

Use search and filters within tables to focus on specific values when required.

Drilling Down with Multiple Dimensions

Step 4: Add a Second Dimension

Add another dimension, such as Parts Sub Category, to go deeper into the analysis.

INSIA automatically updates the recommended views, enabling you to:

  • Identify contributing factors

  • Compare performance across sub-categories

  • Pinpoint growth drivers and gaps

This helps move from understanding what is happening to why it is happening.

Step 5: Add a Third Dimension

Add an additional dimension like Customer Category to analyze performance from multiple business angles.

INSIA presents structured views that help you:

  • Understand product performance by customer type

  • Identify customer-specific trends

  • Support better prioritization and decision-making

Pivot Table Analysis for Flexible Decision-Making

INSIA’s pivot table view allows business users to analyze data in a familiar, flexible format.

Using simple drag-and-drop interactions, you can:

  • Rearrange dimensions instantly

  • Create custom summaries on the fly

  • Compare performance across multiple perspectives

Why this matters:

Pivot tables make it easy to explore follow-up questions during reviews or planning discussions without creating new reports or relying on external tools. You get the flexibility of spreadsheets with the control and reliability of governed data.

Working with Tables & Downloads

From table-based views, you can:

  • Download data in Excel or CSV formats

  • Print reports for meetings and reviews

This ensures insights are easy to share and ready for action across teams.

Dimension-Only Analysis (No Metric)

Step 6: Analyze Data Structure

INSIA also supports analysis using only dimensions, without selecting any metric.

This helps you:

  • Understand data hierarchies

  • Explore relationships between dimensions

  • Validate data structure before deeper analysis

INSIA automatically switches to structure-focused views such as hierarchy and tree-based representations.

Key Takeaway

INSIA adapts to how business users think and work.

By combining search-driven analysis, intelligent view recommendations, pivot-based exploration, and easy sharing, INSIA removes complexity and enables faster, more confident decision-making.
