Visualizations: Stacked Charts

Learn about INSIA's Stacked Charts Visualization feature.

Updated over a week ago

Stacked Bar Graphs segment the bars on top of each other. They are used to show how a larger category is divided into smaller subcategories and what the relationship of each part has on the total amount.

On INSIA, you can use the following stacked charts:

  • Stacked Area Chart

  • Stacked Bar Chart

  • Stacked Column Chart

  • Stacked Percentage Bar Chart

Stacked Area Chart:

The Stacked Area Chart is used when a single metric data is categorized by two dimensions.

For example, You want to see Spend by Category Level 1 and Country. Where Spend is a metric and category level 1 and country are dimensions.

In this chart, the Y-axis displays the Spend and the X-axis displays Category Level 1. The colorful areas graphs are stacked to show the Spend value by category level 1 by different countries. Since each country’s data will differ from one other, they are color-coded and presented through legend.

Note: This is on sample procurement data. We don't set any taxonomies and INSIA will only read column names from your data. If you call 'Spend' as 'Expense', 'Expense' will show on the search bar. You can find the sample data by going to the top right corner of the platform and switching to 'Demo Mode'. There you can select 'Procurement' to see a similar visualization as below.

Stacked Bar Chart:

Similar to Stacked Area Chart, the Stacked Bar Chart presents when a single metric data is categorized by two dimensions.

For example, You want to see Spend by Category Level 1 and Country. Where Spend is a metric and category level 1 and country are dimensions.

In this chart, the X-axis displays the Spend and the Y-axis displays Category Level 1. The colorful stacks in the horizontal bars show the Spend value by category level 1 by different countries. Since each country’s data will differ from one other, they are color-coded and presented through legend.

Stacked Column Chart:

The Stacked Column Chart presents the analysis when a single metric data is categorized by two dimensions.

Let's look at Spend by country Category Level 1 as an example. Where Spend is a metric and category level 1 and country are dimensions.

In this chart, the Y-axis displays the Spend, and the X-axis displays the Category Level 1. The colorful stacks in columns show the Spend value by category level 1 by different countries. Since each country’s data will differ from one other, they are color-coded and presented through legend.

On all the above charts, you can use all features like:

  • Setting alerts

  • Performing drill-downs

  • Generating i360 reports

Stacked Percentage Bar Chart:

The Stacked Percentage Bar Chart presents the analysis when a single metric data is categorized by two dimensions.

Let's use the same example as above - Spend by country Category Level 1

In this chart, the X-axis displays the Spend, and the Y-axis displays the Category Level 1. The colorful stacks in horizontal bars show both numeric percentage values of Spend by category level 1 of different countries. Since each country’s data will differ from one other, they are color-coded and presented through legend.
